Men vs Women

Posted by Nathalie

Can someone answer this question for me? Why does it seem like men can grow their hair so easily when women have to fight for it?

It’s just not fair! Men don’t’ even need long hair! We spend so much time and money in the salon and on countless products to help our stuff grow, and theirs grows with little or no effort! What do they do that’s so different than us?

I’m Sorry

Posted by Nathalie

I’m Sorry

Over this weekend, I had to take a last minute trip to Delray Beach, Florida for the funeral of the Illustrious, Bro. Brown . Because of this, I had to re-arrange / cancel a few appointments and I wanted to give my deepest, SINCERE apology now.

I know how it is when you expect to get your hair done and can’t, and I hate that I put you guys through it.

Anyone I had to cancel this weekend will receive their next hairdo FREE OF CHARGE.

How Do You Measure Success?

Posted by Nathalie

I was going through my calendar and noticed that things have REALLY picked up over the past few months. Since July 2007, I’ve picked up 38 new clients alone! Now, for a big time hair stylist, I know this isn’t much, but for me, it’s a big deal. I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to all of my beloved clients for trusting me with your hair and being so fun! I enjoy everyone I’ve met through this profession and would LOVE to throw some type of party once I get up to like 50 new clients this year. We’ll see what happens.

Thank you to… (Sorry if I have your names spelled wrong!!)

Prank Caller

Prank Caller

See, I knew putting my ## out there on the internet would backfire on me, but did I listen to my first mind? NOPE. I haven’t had many prank callers and/or strange visitors at my house, but the few prank calls have been pretty funny.

Years ago, this guy called up late at night asking to get his hair braided. First off, I knew something was wrong because he basically sounded drunk on the line. He kept repeating himself and he didn’t make any sense. So anyway, here’s basically how the conversation went.

Me: “Good Evening, this is Nathalie”

Him: “Elloww? Ellow? I was callin to get my hurr braided”

Me: “O.k. What did you have in mind?”

Him: “Man, here me out man, serious talk, seriously …”

Me: “O…kaaaay?”

Him: “I’m sayin’ tho…can you braid my pub*c hair?”

Me: CLICK

And that was the end of that one. Funny, but not funny.  Are you serious?  Braid your ‘public’ hairs?  I don’t think so! LOL

The other night, I get another call, this time from a woman. She didn’t have a little joke, she asked to get her hair braided (this woman was also hard to understand on the phone) and then hung up in my face when I asked her name.  Needless to say, the vibe from this woman was strange.  Now, if you’re out there reading this miss, please never call again.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent on the prank calls I get from time to time.   Please understand, I’m a serious individual who’s time isn’t to be wasted, so stop the prank calls please.

Dissapointments in Going Natural

Posted by Nathalie

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again “I’m the type of chick who gets bored with her hairstyles…QUICK.”  I’ve had several haircuts, up-do’s, colors, and in between that, I’ve even found time to fit in weaves…I’ve sampled a good array of extensions from quick weaves, jaw string ponytails, to micros, kinky-twists, sew ins, and …I hate to admit this, but I’ve had a real crusty crochet weave too.

So let’s get to my 2 year journey in the life of nappiness…. My hair was going through a loooong period of ugliness. It was as thin, stringy…and it got so bad I didn’t feel comfortable that my current methods of hair care were going to cut it. I knew, I had to do something drastic in order to “bring sexy back”. At the same time, I started to get some inspiration from women like:

Tracy Ellis Ross

Jill Scott, one of my inspirations

I also got addicted to natural hair care forums such as nappturality.com and from there, I was hooked. I knew there was no chance in hell that I was going to be cutting all of my hair off at once. NO chance!!! So, I decided to wear weaves/braids until I had enough natural hair to cut off the permed ends and still look good.

My natural hair felt so soft…so silky!  I just KNEW it was gonna be fly once I debu’d my natural look.  But to be quite honest…my natural hair was a big disspointment.  I didn’t look ANYTHING like the women I see on tv (should have known that was gonna happen since tv/magazines are so fake)

Here’s a little picture of me when I first cut off all my permed hair aka “The Big Chop”

The Big Chop

I rocked the afro for about two years, hoping that it would eventually transform into a “Tracy Ellis-Ross” do’.  Unfortunately, that never happened, and I went ahead and got a texturizer.

I have the UTMOST respect for natural women out there.  They are holding it down for us permed sisters.  But I want someone to tell me.  Honestly…were you disappointed when you tried to go natural?  Did anyone else have a similar experience?
