This scares me man, do guys really think these crazy things when I’m braiding their hair? I hope not!

Over this weekend, I had to take a last minute trip to Delray Beach, Florida for the funeral of the Illustrious, Bro. Brown . Because of this, I had to re-arrange / cancel a few appointments and I wanted to give my deepest, SINCERE apology now.
I know how it is when you expect to get your hair done and can’t, and I hate that I put you guys through it.
Anyone I had to cancel this weekend will receive their next hairdo FREE OF CHARGE.

Check this link ( HairTrauma ) if you’ve never heard of it. I would give ANYTHING to work at that salon! It looks like so much fun!
Feel free to write to them and petition to have me (and my friend Christina) intern there ASAP!
I used to be an innovator, creating styles that no one’s seen before, but lately, I feel I’ve been totally uninspired. I FINALLY came up with a new design over the weekend (pictured below, model; Paul uaffiliated.com) What do you think?

See, I knew putting my ## out there on the internet would backfire on me, but did I listen to my first mind? NOPE. I haven’t had many prank callers and/or strange visitors at my house, but the few prank calls have been pretty funny.
Years ago, this guy called up late at night asking to get his hair braided. First off, I knew something was wrong because he basically sounded drunk on the line. He kept repeating himself and he didn’t make any sense. So anyway, here’s basically how the conversation went.
Me: “Good Evening, this is Nathalie”
Him: “Elloww? Ellow? I was callin to get my hurr braided”
Me: “O.k. What did you have in mind?”
Him: “Man, here me out man, serious talk, seriously …”
Me: “O…kaaaay?”
Him: “I’m sayin’ tho…can you braid my pub*c hair?”
Me: CLICK
And that was the end of that one. Funny, but not funny. Are you serious? Braid your ‘public’ hairs? I don’t think so! LOL
The other night, I get another call, this time from a woman. She didn’t have a little joke, she asked to get her hair braided (this woman was also hard to understand on the phone) and then hung up in my face when I asked her name. Needless to say, the vibe from this woman was strange. Now, if you’re out there reading this miss, please never call again.
Anyway, I just wanted to vent on the prank calls I get from time to time. Please understand, I’m a serious individual who’s time isn’t to be wasted, so stop the prank calls please.
As some of you may know, I was natural for about 2 years of my life (picture to the left). During that time, I felt free, liberated of the European standard of beauty, and…more..black (does that make sense?) Well, in Nov/Dec of 2006, I grew tired of the same look and decided to go for a ‘texturizer’. A good friend of mine recommended a stylist and so, I went.
This woman did WONDERS with my hair. It’s healthier than ever before…it’s grown quite a bit, and I’m completely content when I leave her salon. I will not give out her name/salon (because that would just be unprofessional), but the problem is that this heffer won’t respect my time! I make an appointment for 4pm, get there at 3:45 and guess what? She’s so consistently overbooked that she doesn’t even touch one hair on my head until at least an hour later. Now, I respect her for trying to maximize her profits. From what she’s told me, she has 4 kids and works 6 days a week. She’s on that paper chase, and I wont’ fault her for it. Some women may be content in having to be in the salon for 4 - 5 hours just for a shampoo, but I’m NOT. I have ‘ish to do!.
I’ve been going to her religiously for almost a year now, and the same thing happens ever time! I’m angry, waiting, waiting and waiting and WAITING…and just before I’m about to give up and walk the f** out, she calls me up to her chair. Then the shampoo, then more waiting…and more anger as I watch her do 10 other girls’ heads at the same time. What’s the point of making an appointment if it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the stylist? I was poking around on roshini.net and found a video by blackhairdvd.com discussing the black hair care market and where our money REALLY goes. The opening lines are as follows….
“African American women spend billions every year on hair products.
Even though they only make up 10% of the American Population, they buy 70% of all wigs and extensions purchased in the United States.”
Many of us use/buy our hair products without taking any consideration as to where they came from, but after watching the videos below, I’ve decided to look closer at how I spend my money, at least when it comes to buying black hair care products.

Out of all of the millions that are being spent by the black community on hair care products and extensions, only a fraction is coming back in. And where is it going? To the Koreans of all people. Not to say that it’s a bad thing for any group to be successful entrepreneurs, but the methods in which the Koreans are going about it are almost unethical in my eyes. They have an easy time taking our money for many reasons:
With all that’s going on right now, this really isn’t a big deal to the most of us. But to the honest, hard working black entrepreneur who’s trying to get into a market geared towards their people, this is really devastating. The vast amounts of jobs that could be available in lower-income, urban communities are being compromised as well.
Bobsa.org (Black Owned Beauty Supply Association) is a group geared towards gaining some of the control of the black hair care/beauty supply market in the United States. They provide an interesting list of Black Hair care distributors and also have a good list of beauty supply stores that are black-owned.
When making your next purchase of hair extensions, or black hair care products, please be conscious of where you’re purchasing from and where those hard-earned dollars really go.
