Men vs Women

Posted by Nathalie on February 11, 2008

Can someone answer this question for me? Why does it seem like men can grow their hair so easily when women have to fight for it?

It’s just not fair! Men don’t’ even need long hair! We spend so much time and money in the salon and on countless products to help our stuff grow, and theirs grows with little or no effort! What do they do that’s so different than us?

I agree with you about men and hair. UGH it’s frustrating to say the least, lol. I think with men, less is more. They don’t use a lot of products. Plus I think it has to do with the estrogen in our bodies. But I could be wrong.

  2. kema Said,

no you are exactly right it is the estrogen that makes hair growth slow. but if you consider it if you have less estrogen you also start getting hair on your face and chest like men many women do in menopause lol. so weigh your options there.

  3. A.G. Said,

Well, there’s your problem. Stop going to the salon! Alot of women put chemicals and heat in their hair which damages, dries out the hair and eventually it breaks off, while most African American men keep it natural and are secure with their kinky curly texture. I’ve been natural for quite some time and my hair is pass my shoulders-armpit length. It’s strong and healthy. I use all natural products. Pure Coconut oil, olive oil, alma, shikakai, henna, etc. and I keep it braided or twisted. I just leave it alone and trim once or twice a year. I also take my vitamins and eat as healthy as possible. I’m a vegetarian. Women are so concerned looking good for everyone else that they don’t consider their own health. If more women were educated on their natural hair and proud of their true African roots then so many African descent women would not suffer from so much breakage or lack of growth. Take a tip from your father or brother and just let your hair be.

  4. Michelle Said,

I agree with A G it has to with hair care. If you notice guys dont really do that much to their hair. They find a hairstyle they like and they stick to it and the hairstyle is usually some kind of braids or dreads that last weeks without having to be touched, which allows your hair time to grow. On the other hand women do their hair every day several times a day.

  5. TazZ Said,

I totally agree with A.G.! I’m a 21 year old male and I basically use the very same procedure. I started braiding my hair just before I made 19, now they’re past my shoulders and all I do is get them done just as A.G. does, I hardly go to a hair salon and when I do it’s just to get them undone(I hate to undo my own hair because it’s so thick and there’s a lot of it) and washed. My cousin braids my hair, I leave them in for 2-4 weeks and I’ve only trimmed my hair once since I’ve started braiding and they are also very thick, strong and healthy. The chemicals that hair salons use(and they do) will damage your hair to the point where you become virtually bald! Word of advice to women: Try Not To Visit The Salon So Often, twice or once a month is more than enough.

  6. Shawn E. Said,

I am a black man and I have always wanted long hair, I grew it out one good time and had braids for less than a year. I only cut them because of the cost to get them done and to drive to the place. Now I wish I could get it back, I’m BALDING in the top and rogaine isn’t working and it cost to damn much. I saw an ad for some hair grown fast stuff at Sally’s Beauty Supply but now I’m thinking I should cut it again and get a mohawk and go to a nice fade or something. So to the women who are mad at us and envy us, not all of us can grow our hair like we want.

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything. However just imagine if you added some great pictures or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this website could certainly be one of the best in its niche. Fantastic blog!
