I’ve FIRED my Hair Stylist!

Posted by Nathalie on September 7, 2007

My natural HairAs some of you may know, I was natural for about 2 years of my life (picture to the left). During that time, I felt free, liberated of the European standard of beauty, and…more..black (does that make sense?) Well, in Nov/Dec of 2006, I grew tired of the same look and decided to go for a ‘texturizer’. A good friend of mine recommended a stylist and so, I went.

This woman did WONDERS with my hair. It’s healthier than ever before…it’s grown quite a bit, and I’m completely content when I leave her salon. I will not give out her name/salon (because that would just be unprofessional), but the problem is that this heffer won’t respect my time! I make an appointment for 4pm, get there at 3:45 and guess what? She’s so consistently overbooked that she doesn’t even touch one hair on my head until at least an hour later. Now, I respect her for trying to maximize her profits. From what she’s told me, she has 4 kids and works 6 days a week. She’s on that paper chase, and I wont’ fault her for it. Some women may be content in having to be in the salon for 4 - 5 hours just for a shampoo, but I’m NOT. I have ‘ish to do!.

I’ve been going to her religiously for almost a year now, and the same thing happens ever time! I’m angry, waiting, waiting and waiting and WAITING…and just before I’m about to give up and walk the f** out, she calls me up to her chair. Then the shampoo, then more waiting…and more anger as I watch her do 10 other girls’ heads at the same time. What’s the point of making an appointment if it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the stylist?

This is partially a rant and rave of anger, and also a bit of advise to aspiring/current hair stylists out there. Of course, you need to make sure that your business is profitable, but at the same time, you need to respect your clients. Try to make sure that you keep your appointments. Do not overbook and make sure you’re there for every appointment (unless you notify them otherwise). You can be the best hairstylist in the world, but if you’re unprofessional, no one’s going to want to come to you…and word spreads fast.

Now, I go to a good friend of mine, Christina (at JULES 26), 407.447.4047. She’s been great so far…she’s very great with my hair and her prices are VERY reasonable. She pays attention to what I ask for, she’s truly skilled…and she’s PROFESSIONAL. Much love Christina!!

  1. LL Said,

I hear you. Glad my stylist respects my time!!!!!!!

  2. Christina Said,

THANX FOR THE LOVE, I’M GLAD I CAN BE THERE FOR YOU :)

  3. ET Said,

I agree with you. No one has the time to sit around and wait especially if you have an appt and you are on time. Occasionally, I can see someone being late but not all the time.
